Netflix

Netflix has announced it is bringing spatial audio, which allows for theater-like immersive audio using existing stereo speakers, to its service.

Netflix is partnering with audio-technology company Sennheiser on their spatial audio tech (AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio) which helps translate the ‘cinematic experience’ of immersive, surround-sound audio to any stereo.

Netflix is the first streaming platform to use the Sennheiser system and has begun rolling out spatial audio across its catalog beginning today with 27 titles available with the format including “Stranger Things,” “The Witcher,” “Locke & Key,” “Interceptor, ”“ Red Notice, ”“ The Adam Project, ”“ The Haunting of Bly Manor, ”and the“ Fear Street ”trilogy among others. Typing ‘spatial audio’ into the search bar will reveal which titles support it.

In addition, Netflix supports Apple’s much-touted spatial audio on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad devices to enhance 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio.

Netflix has been one of the fastest services to embrace high-end display tech with 4K, Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos available on many of its key originals.
