Poll: Do you like flat or curved screens in smartphones?

In addition to foldable phones and possible rollable phones, smartphone OEMs usually have the option of choosing between curved screens or flat screens. In general, it all comes down to aesthetics, though fans of either type of display will probably argue about usability. Unfortunately, OEMs often don’t give consumers a choice, so if you want a specific phone model, you’re pretty much stuck with the type of display the OEM makes.

The upcoming Pixel 8 Pro is rumored to change things and may have a flat screen. With this in mind, we want to know which screen you prefer on your smartphone.

Samsung essentially popularized the curved smartphone display with phones like the Galaxy Note Edge and later models. Eventually, many other OEMs began to adopt the curved display on many of the best Android phones, and it’s typically saved for high-end models like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, almost as if the feature itself conveys “premium.”

This is something Google apparently took to heart with its recent Pixel releases. With the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro, the company is equipping both models with a curved screen, while the non-Pro models have flat screens. Basically, if you like flat panels, the Pro model might look less appealing despite the better specs, or alternatively, you might want the more affordable Pixel but would be stuck wishing it had a curved panel.

With the Pixel 8 series, it looks like Google is settling on one display type. Based on the latest leaked renders of the devices, it looks like both are Pixel 8 and The Pixel 8 Pro uses flat screens, much to the chagrin of those who prefer curved aesthetics. It’s unclear why this change is being made, and perhaps Google will explain when the phones are released later this year, but it looks like fans of the curved screen will take the L this year, especially with Samsung’s ever-flattering Ultra screens.

Tell us in the comments of the poll or on social media why you like one more than the other.
