MANILA, Philippines – Smart Communications Inc., the wireless unit of PLDT Inc., will slash the prices of its mobile services to support its subscribers’ growing demand for Internet data.

Smart said yesterday it would expand its range of mobile broadband products to accommodate growing demand for internet connectivity and contribute to economic recovery.

Francis Flores, Smart senior vice president and head of consumer wireless, said the company will re-launch its Smart Rocket WiFi 5G at a lower price so customers can use it.

Starting from an original price of P15,995, the Smart Rocket WiFi 5G will be available for P12,995, making it the most affordable 5G router in the country. Smart also plans to continue selling its Smart Bro Pocket WiFi LTE Advanced (Cat 6) device at P1,495.

Smart aims to make its mobile broadband (especially Pocket WiFi LTE) affordable to ensure the democratization of internet access in the digital age. Smart also maintains LTE coverage of 97% of the population, allowing users to connect to the network almost anywhere in the archipelago.

“Smart has long provided these mobile broadband devices to democratize internet access and make it available to more Filipinos,” Flores said.

“With lower prices, broadest coverage and ease of use now, we will stay true to our mission to make life better for our users today,” he said.

Flores added that Smart plans to introduce the latest technology in mobile services to provide users with the best products on the market.

“As more advanced Cat 6 devices become available for LTE, we are also making it easier for our customers to use these devices. Cat 6 devices will pave the way for a better customer experience compared to older Cat 4 devices in the market roads, enabling our customers to stay connected and live in the moment in the best possible way,” Flores said.

Apart from this, Smart also allows its Smart Bro customers to use the pouch-sized data packets for everyday use. The Pangilinan-led telco is offering 20 GB access to all sites for seven days for P149 and unlimited data for 30 days for P699.

Ookla named Smart the best mobile network in the Philippines for all quarters in 2022.

To win this award, Smart had to be rated as the fastest mobile network and best mobile coverage at the time.
