The hit movie Titanic is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion a new digitally remastered version of the film will hit cinemas next month.
But a new poster announcing the re-release has caused some head-scratching on the internet, thanks to one odd detail.

Like the original poster, it features star-crossed lovers Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) in a romantic embrace.
But fans have pointed out that something very weird is happening with Winslet’s hair.
On one side, it’s pinned up in soft waves, as befits the style of the time (the Titanic sank in 1912).
On the other side, however, Winslet’s hair is pinned down in a loose style, as if she’s taken to it with a very 2020s heat styling tool.
While the poster designers may have wanted to give the idea that Titanic had been updated for modern times – and so has Kate’s hairstyle – most fans just thought it looked wrong.
After the poster was released, Twitter exploded with genuine confusion, hilarious comments and a whole bunch of memes.
“Really stressing me out how Kate Winslet has two different hair styles here,” wrote one Twitter user.
“Why does she have two hairstyles?” asked another.
That opened the floodgates.
“She was getting a perm then the iceberg hit?” one person wrote back.
“Forgot to finish using the curling iron,” another joked.
OMG why would they do this, I can’t unsee this! said another.
“Hair up represents the first VHS, hair down represents the second VHS,” one person joked.
Like, girl, who style u? wondered another.
“Hear me out … it’s Leo’s (hair) and they CGI-ed it out in the final cut,” another Twitter user suggested.
But others said fans were missing the deeper symbolism.
“Y’all really don’t get the meaning behind it?” one person wrote.
It basically represents her two different lives in the movie.
“One uptight, rich and the other one free from restraints (just like her loose hair).”
Others agreed with this analysis.
“Because the side with her hair up is the persona she’s been forced to present, while the side with hair down, that she’s hiding from us, that Jack is hugging her from, is her real self,” one person explained.
Another fan weighed in with some similarly profound analysis.
“It’s supposed to represent her two sides, the one people saw and expected her to be, and her true self that she only revealed to Jack, hence why her hair is loose on his side,” they wrote.
Regardless of the symbolism, many thought the poster just looked terrible.
“This poster is af****** mess, and I cannot believe somebody actually approved it,” grumbled one critic.
