It was one of the first games announced for the PS5, but licensed stealth action title The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will finally lurk onto Sony’s new-gen console (as well as PS4, of course) from 1st September. A new gameplay trailer gives a taste of what you can expect, including first-person deep-sea diving and lots of crawling through shrubbery.
“Gollum is perhaps the most maligned and misunderstood creature in all of Middle-earth,” the press release teases. “Cursed with duelling personalities and a constant compulsion to find his Preciousss, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum takes players on an exceptional journey, sharing a unique perspective to Gollum alone. Whether creeping through tall grasses or swimming in rivers, Gollum must adapt and move with stealth if he is to evade enemies during his adventure. ”
The title’s definitely improved since its earlier showings, and there are a real dearth of stealth games these days, so it could plug a gap. However, we’re still not all that keen on the idea of taking control of Gollum – it just doesn’t sound all that appealing to us. Hopefully we get to see a bit more gameplay prior to its release in a couple of months.
