After signing with Florida in December, five-star Pittsburg (Calif.) quarterback Jaden Rashada was set to enroll in Gainesville after playing in the Under Armor All-America Game.
But Rashada has yet to return to the Sunshine State.
Despite some reports that Rashada asked out of his NLI, his father, Harlen Rashada, told 247Sports on Wednesday night that his son has not filed to get out of his signed letter of intent.
“Jaden has not filed a request for release from Florida,” Harlen Rashada said. “He is still signed with Florida.”
Harlen Rashada elaborated on where things stand with Florida.
“Jaden hasn’t enrolled yet, he’s in the Bay Area,” Rashada said. “We’re having a conversation with Florida tomorrow (Thursday). “We’re in constant talks with Florida in regards to his enrollment, but I’d like to think if he’s not enrolled by Friday there will be some challenges there to proceed as planned.”
With Florida’s first day of classes this past Monday (Jan. 9), this upcoming Friday (Jan. 12) is the last day of drop/add at the university. That would allow Rashada to enroll and start attending classes on Monday, pending their conversation with the university on Thursday.
“We’re working through some things right now with Florida and hoping that they get resolved soon,” Harlen Rashada said. “Jaden has been excited about the next chapter of his academic and athletic career and is eagerly anticipating early enrollment in Gainesville.”
A five-star per 247Sports, Rashada ranks as the No. 6 quarterback nationally and the No. 6 prospects in the state of California, checking in as the No. 29 overall players in the 2023 class.
He was selected to the Elite 11 Finals, the Under Armor All-America Game and the Polynesian Bowl.
Once committed to Miami, Rashada flipped his commitment to the Gators in November and signed with Billy Napier in December. Of the 17 expected early enrollees from the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class, Rashada is the lone name who has not reported to campus.
While Rashada is listed in the Florida student directory, it does not mean he is enrolled at the university but rather accepted on the merits of his high school academics.
Jaden Rashada Scouting Report: Owns a frame and build that can add ample weight and strength. Has the mold to add at least 20 pounds of muscle easily. As he matures and gets stronger it will benefit his durability, long-term ability, and development. Stands tall in the pocket with the mobility to avoid the rush and buy time to make plays under pressure. Poised and does a nice job making plays off platform. Mechanically displays a smooth, effortless throwing motion. Gets the ball out quickly, generating power from his lower body to have the ball snap out of his hand. Does a good job changing speeds and adding touch on throws when needed, to either fit the pass into tight windows or to complete throws over defenders. Good ball placement on passes where only the receiver is able to make the play. Plays with impressive anticipation on his throws where you can see that he is throwing his receivers open and out of harm’s way. Continued development should foster growth in his ability to go through his progressions and understand pre-snap what coverage the defense is in so that he can get the ball out quicker than he already does.
