LIV Golf has announced the details of the game formula of the final event of the season, which will be held from October 28 to 30 on the famous (and challenging) Blue Monster course of the Trump National Doral in Miami.
Team Championship, schedule:
As we have already seen, the tournament, unlike those of the regular season, will not have an individual ranking, but only a team ranking.
The teams will be placed on a draw based on the results achieved over the regular season (which has yet to end with the events in Bangkok and Jeddah). On Friday, the teams that will occupy the places from fifth to twelfth will take the field for the quarter-finals.
The best placed teams in the standings will be able to choose the team to meet. The formula chosen for the matches is that of match play. Three matches will be played in the usual shotgun start. Two singles and a foursome will be played, with the aim of scoring two points (no draws) and moving on to the semifinals.
On Saturday the four qualified teams will reach the top four of the general classification to form the semi-final draw. Here, too, the teams with the best ranking will be able to choose their opponent. The matches will be played with the same formula as the quarters, two singles and one foursome.
The winning teams will enter the final on Sunday, where the formula will change. The players will take to the field in pairs, with the Captains playing together, in the traditional stroke play formula. All four scores of the team members will be valid, and the team with the lowest score will be crowned Team Champion.
The total prize pool, as I was able to tell you, will be $50 million. LIV Golf is a professional golf tour funded by the Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. The name “LIV” refers to the Roman numerals for 54, the score if each hole on a par-72 course was birdied and the number of holes to be played in the LIV events.
