During Sunday’s Academy Awards, FX released a trailer for the highly anticipated second season of The Bear and announced that it will premiere in June.
FX captioned its tweet with the teaser: “This isn’t a re-opening, it’s a revival. FX’s The Bear returns in June. Only on Hulu.”
The Bear tells the story of a classically trained young chef who returns to Chicago to run the family’s Italian beef sandwich shop after the death of his brother. The series stars Jeremy Allen White (Carmen “Carmi” Berzato), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Richard “Richie” Jerimowicz), Ayo Edebiri (Sydney Adamu), Lionel Boyce (Marcus), Lisa Colon-Zayas (Tina) and Abby Elliott ( Natalie “Sugar” Berzato).
The second season, created by Christopher Storer, will consist of 10 episodes, two more than the first, and will focus on the opening of a new restaurant.
The first season was met with critical acclaim, winning at the WGAs and Indie Spirit Awards, as well as winning Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and SAG Awards. In February, White won the SAG Award for Best Actor and also won at the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globes.
Narrated by stars White and Edebiri, and executive produced by Joanna Kala Diversity in January that Carmi and Sydney’s relationship won’t progress past co-workers and (to some extent) friends in season two. “We wanted to create something about friendship and partnership,” Storer said. “It’s really so funny that that’s one of the things that people have taken away from all the heavy shit that goes on in the show! It was interesting because Ayo and Jeremy, because they’re friends of ours and such wonderful people, I think they both have such charisma.”
