Lance Reddick’s cause of death: ‘The Wire’ star and John Wick ‘suddenly’ died of natural causes at age 60


Lance Reddick, a veteran actor, is known for his intense roles in popular HBO series Wire and John Wick militants, died on Friday, the Associated Press reports. He was 60.

Redick died “suddenly” of natural causes, his publicist told the AP.

TMZ, which first reported Reddick’s death, reported that the actor’s body was found at his home in Studio City, Los Angeles, according to law enforcement sources.

Acting Wire co-star Wendell Pierce wrote on social networks on Friday that Reddick was “a man of great strength and grace.”

“He was as talented a musician as he was an actor,” Mr Pearce continued. “The epitome of class. A sudden, unexpected, acute, painful grief for our artistic family. Unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. God is my friend. You left your mark here.”

Director James Gunn said Friday on Twitter that Reddick was an “incredibly nice guy and an incredibly talented actor.”

“It’s heartwarming,” Hon said. “I love all his family, friends and co-workers.”

Michael Connelly, novelist and creator Boschin which Reddick played a police chief, said the actor was “a great person, friend and co-worker.”

“He took a character who was paper-thin in the books and made Irwin Irving multidimensional, Machiavellian, intriguing and even likeable,” Mr. Connelly. wrote on Twitter. “Loved working with him. Loved knowing him. He left too soon.’

Reddick was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended the Yale School of Drama.

The actor said that despite his success, he felt that his position as an actor was sometimes shaky because of his race.

“At heart I am an artist. I feel like I’m very good at what I do,” he said Los Angeles Times in 2009. “When I was in theater school, I knew I was at least as talented as the other students, but because I was a black man and I wasn’t pretty, I knew I had to work, to become the best that I would like to be and to be noticed.”

“When I look at the industry and see what it took for me to get to where I am,” he added, “I better understand how precarious my position is. There is no such thing as a holding pattern.’

Reddick’s reputation and profile was cemented by his role as Cedric Daniels, an enigmatic and ambitious police lieutenant, in the groundbreaking television series Wirewhich ran from 2002 to 2008.

Despite his dramatic roles in series such as Lost, Law and Order and American Horror StoryRedick was also game for comedy.

After his death, fans began circulating a clip of Reddick appearing on the satirical late-night comedy show in 2013 The Eric Andre Showwhich ended with the actor theatrically slamming his fist and declaring, “You need a new desk.”
