Originally titled Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos looks set to serve as a sequel to WandaVision. While we’re not sure why the character is getting her own six-part series, the expectation is that it will better explain magic’s place in the MCU (rumors also persist that Sacha Baron Cohen will show up as Mephisto after debuting in Ironheart).
An appearance from the Scarlet Witch can’t be off the table, while recent rumors have suggested we’ll see Wiccan play a role in the Disney+ spin-off as well.
Recently, it was reported that Agatha: Coven of Chaos will feature a new Coven of Witches responsible for freeing “Agnes” from the mental prison Wanda Maximoff trapped her in. That means we’re heading back to Westview, and Deadline reports that WandaVision and That ’90s Show star Debra Jo Rupp is set to reprise her role as Sharon Davis/”Mrs. Hart.”
The actress appeared in five episodes of the Marvel Studios TV series, and with Emma Caulfield Ford also reprising her role as Sarah Proctor/”Dottie Jones,” we expect either flashbacks or a glimpse into what became of the town after the Scarlet Witch left with the Darkhold.
The Agatha: Coven of Chaos cast also includes Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Patti LuPone.
WandaVision Head Writer Jac Schaeffer will return in both that role and as executive producer on the spin-off, and our hope is that the show will better explore the place of magic in the MCU. Ironheart will pit science against magic, of course, and between these stories and Werewolf by Nightit seems Marvel Studios is finally going to explore the MCU’s supernatural side.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in late 2023/early 2024.
