Melissa Caddick’s artwork sold at packed auction

The court-appointed liquidators and receivers Bruce Gleeson and Daniel Soire from Jones Partners have been identifying and selling assets of Caddick to return funds to her victims.

In April, Caddick’s hairdresser husband Anthony Coletti filed a claim over his wife’s $30 million proceeds of crime, including her Gucci wedding dress, $7 million in shares and five John Olsen paintings, including the most valuable, Giraffes & Wet Season.

He also claimed jewelry which included his white gold onyx cufflinks valued at $5600, a $34,000 diamond ring and his wedding band, valued at more than $26,500.

In May, Coletti justified his claims over his wife’s possessions saying, “Melissa never gave me a cent … It’s not like I was some desperate Double Bay housewife living off the wife. Why wouldn’t I be entitled to something?”

Totem for Martin by Jenny Orchard was in the collection.

This claim was at odds with what Coletti told the Federal Court shortly after his wife first went missing in November 2020.

The court heard that he only had $1.95 to his name and that, since the COVID-19 pandemic, he had quit work and was totally dependent on his wife.

“I do not earn an income. My living expenses and those of our Dover Heights household are paid for by Melissa Caddick,” he said.

In June this year, Koletti’s lawyer told the Federal Court that he was abandoning his claim relating to his wife’s possessions as he wanted to get on with his life.

But last week Coletti filed a new affidavit, this time claiming ownership of a number of times of expensive jewelry as well as two paintings by Adrian Lockhart.

“In about 2015, Anthony Coletti purchased the artwork entitled Love Song by Adrian Lockhart,” Coletti said in his recent affidavit.

He also claimed his wife had given him an untitled abstract artwork, also by Adrian Lockhart.

Other artworks, jewelry and Caddick’s vast collection of designer clothes and accessories will be auctioned by Shapiro Auctions on December 5 and 6.

The following night, Caddick’s multimillion-dollar jewelry collection – purchased with stolen funds – will be auctioned by Smith & Singer.

The liquidators have already auctioned Caddick’s Dover Heights home for a price believed to be around $10 million.

In February, Caddick’s Mercedes-Benz and Coletti’s Audi sports car were auctioned for more than $360,000.
