Second SS payment for January: Who is receiving a check for up to $1,827 today?

All Social Security recipients will be able to expect bigger benefit checks during the month of January after the increase that was announced in October, 2022. There is an adjustment that was announced by the Social Security Administrationan increase to the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of 8.7% that represents the biggest boost of the past 41 years. To put it in perspective, last year’s COLA was 5.9% and it wasn’t nearly enough to cover their needs. Inflation soared and it didn’t help them as much as it was expected, that’s the reason COLA was increased for this year. Well, the second payment of this new increase is coming today.

As you all know, the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month are when these payments get to recipients. The same monthly schedule we’ve talked about since these payments started happening. In case you forgot, let’s refresh your memory. People whose birth date falls between the 1st and 10th of each month will get paid on the second Wednesday of the month. Folks whose birth date falls between the 11th and 20th of each month will get paid on the second Wednesday of each month. Finally, people whose birth date falls between the 21st and 31st of every month will get paid on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

What happens if you don’t get your SS payment in time?

If you didn’t get your payments and you were supposed to, the SSA advises you to allow three additional mailing days before you attempt to contact Social Security directly. There are also seniors who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and already got their January payments on December 30. These payments usually fall on the first day of every month but can fall behind if that day falls on a weekend. In that case, these payments should fall in advanced or on the first Monday after that weekend. For more information, check out the Social Security Administration’s official website.
